Alicia Markey: Art That Heals the Soul
I am a mixed media artist drawn to themes of femininity, healing, motherhood, and transformation. My work is deeply personal — a visual language born from experiences that words alone can’t hold. Through gouache, acrylic, collage, and portraiture, I explore the emotional landscapes of grief, growth, and the quiet resilience of the female form.
I began creating art as a way to process life’s most tender and complex moments — from the loss of my daughter in late pregnancy, to the layered realities of motherhood and the daily balancing act of working full-time while raising four children. Art became my sanctuary, my voice, and my way back to myself.
Much of my work features the female body as a vessel for strength and vulnerability. Water, gold leaf, roots, and radiant light often appear as metaphors for self-energy, divine connection, and healing. I believe in art as a sacred act — not only for the artist, but for the viewer. My pieces invite others into a shared space of reflection, emotion, and transformation.
I currently live and work in Delaware, creating in the margins of everyday life and dreaming of a future where this work is my daily rhythm. I hope my art speaks to those navigating their own depths, and reminds them: beauty lives in truth, even when it hurts.
